Contractors’ Guide to Mass Concrete
- Autor:
Bruce A. Suprenant
Ward R. Malisch
- Resumen:
To accurately bid a project, estimators need to know which structural components are considered mass concrete and the temperature limits that will apply. They also need to be familiar with the options available for keeping concrete temperatures within the limits so they can include the associated costs. A well-prepared bid includes a careful look at the specifications and an indication of the assumptions made when preparing the bid.

Energizing Concrete
- Autor:
Mark A. Bury

- Resumen:
A new rheology-controlling admixture that offers the ability to overcome placement challenges associated with low-slump mixtures is described. The advantages include increased production rates, reduced vibration requirements for consolidation, and reduced equipment wear. It also improves placing and finishing and the performance of mixtures that include manufactured sand, while minimizing slump of unformed edges and enhancing surface appearance.

Density - Is it Worth Measuring?
- Autor:
Ken W. Day
- Resumen:
By using cusum graphs of many properties, the cause of changes in concrete quality can be deduced by correlating the change points among the properties. This correlation enables confirmation of the change long before there are sufficient strength results to establish a statistical certainty of it. If measurements of strength, density, slump, and temperature all support a strength change and explain what caused it, then very few results are needed to be sure it happened.

Packing More Value into the Mix
- Autor:
William D. Palmer
- Resumen:
Using advanced algorithms that optimize the performance and cost of a mixture through improved particle packing and continuous process control, a computerized mixture proportioning and quality control system provides improvements in production consistency, quality, and profits while reducing the environmental impact associated with concrete production. Producers gain these benefits without redesigning their concrete plants or changing their existing raw materials. Producers have found that the system can help them provide normal and high-performance concretes that are also the most cost-effective and environmentally-friendly products possible.
