Autor:

Resumen:

Purpose: Recent studies evaluating physical activity programming in independent living facilities reveal that oftentimes programs have poor attendance rates, with difficulty in motivating older residents identified as a primary barrier. To better understand how to promote physical activity in the independent living setting, a brief cognitive-behavioral feedback intervention was evaluated as a means to mobilize older adults to attend introductory activity programs.

Resumen:

Purpose: This study was conducted to describe lower extremity muscle morphology (volume and peak cross-sectional area (CSA)) in young athletes and compare these with previously reported values. A second aim was to determine if muscle morphological values differ significantly between sides, implying that unilateral measurements cannot represent both limbs accurately.

Resumen:

Purpose: Physiological variables must be scaled for body size differences to permit meaningful comparisons between groups. Using allometric scaling, this study compared the anaerobic performance, using both arms and legs, of men and women. Ten active male and 10 active female subjects performed the leg cycling and arm cranking in a 30-s all-out Wingate test (WAnT). Regional measurements of the legs, gluteal area, arms, and torso taken using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) served as indicators of lower body active musculature (LBAMM) and upper body (UBAMM) active musculature
