JUAN CRISTÓBAL COBO: AN OPAQUE LIGHT

Resumen:

For many years, the native-born Columbian told stories as a cinematographer for films, documentaries and advertising, but when he felt he was losing touch with telling his own stories, he turned to still photography. His book, La Luz Opaca, documents the faded glory and resilient spirit of Bogota's main thoroughfare in street portraits of astonishing power, empathy and insight.

JAMES WHITLOW DELANO: BLACK TSUNAMI

Resumen:

The Japanese government's August 2023 release of treated radioactive water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea sparked widespread protest in Japan and Korea, bringing into focus once again the catastrophe resulting from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Photojournalist James Whitlow Delano was granted access to the afflicted area in the immediate aftermath. His high-contrast, soft-focus images hauntingly evoke the tragedy and trauma of the events.

KATHERINE TURCZAN: FROM WHERE THEY CAME

Resumen:

Family stories also anímate the work of photographer Katherine Turczan, born in the US to Ukrainian parents. Between 1991 and 2008, she made numerous trips to Ukraine, making informal yet intimate portraits that document and explore cultural links to her family's homeland. Her photographs evoke a period of calm and stability irrevocably damaged in the wake of the Russian invasion in 2022.
