Looking at Fred Lyon's seminal photographs of San Francisco, one can't help recall the lyrics that Tony Bennett made immortal: "I left my heart in San Francisco / High on a hill, it calls to me / To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars / The morning fog may chill the air, I don't care." In this exclusive Q&A, Lyon shares his memories of photographing the fabled City by the Bay.

"I think the photojournalist's job is to show what you don't want to see, the lost souls of the world," says the Italian-born Bispuri, who takes seriously his longtime commitment to telling the stories of the rejected, the discarded and the invisible. "I am interested in investigating the things that are hidden."

Although he's not a household name, photographer and Nevada renaissance man Gus Bundy's early 1950s images of wild horse hunts inspired creative titans Arthur Miller and John Huston, led to the 1961 film The Misfits, and helped usher in legislation that outlawed certain mustang hunting practices.
