"Arcadia is a village of about people at the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia where the Bay of Fundy meets the Atlantic. Places called Canaan Egypt or Paradise are not far away. Arcadia is a river village where the fresh water its upland forest meet the tidal saltwater river flanked by dairy farms to the sea. This place where the river changes direction four times a day feels connected to the forces of the cosmos. Like so many other Acadies in Nova Scotia this inter-tidal place has the qualities that have supported settlement given Nova Scotia its particular human history. As a child my life focused on the river like those of my predecessors whether it be setting fishing lines in the river bank on the way to school in the morning, dipping for gaspereaux at dusk, playing pond hockey in winter or swimming in the summer when the warm tidal flats heated the cold incoming Fundy tides..."
