Structural engineers often strive to optimize the cost of structures by minimizing the sizes of structural members. Minimizing the size of concrete members, however, can lead to unintended consequences that may defeat the global goal of minimizing overall construction cost. It’s therefore important to step back and consider how the individual components interact.

Before the ACI Spring 2007 Convention, the Technical Activities Committee (TAC) selected 51 Chairs for ACI technical committees and TAC subcommittees.

To address sustainability challenges facing the concrete industry, the Strategic Development Council (SDC) organized the Concrete Summit on Sustainable Development, held on March 29 and 30, 2007, in Washington, DC. To ensure broad industry representation, participation in the summit was opened to non-SDC members, with leaders from various facets of the concrete industry invited to participate.
