They are misguided that we equated plasma retinol concentrations with vitamin A status (1); instead, we quoted a recommendation from leading experts, which was reviewed by the International Vitamin A Consultative Group, that serum retinol concentration is the prime indicator for routine assessment of the ocurrence and degree of vitamin A deficiency (2)
